The top layer is made from woven Oxford fabric, which is soft to the touch, durable enough for regular use, and available in a vast array of colors and patterns. The bottom layer features a PE (polyethylene) waterproof coating that prevents ground moisture from soaking through, ensuring that food, clothing, and electronics stay dry even on dewy morning grass.
Each mat folds compactly into a carry package with a built-in handle or strap, making it easy to transport to parks, beaches, campsites, or sporting events. When the picnic is over, simply shake off crumbs and dirt, wipe the surface clean, and fold it up for next time. The lightweight design means even children can carry their own mat.
Material Quality and Durability
We use premium-grade Oxford fabric (typically 150D or 210D) for the top layer of our picnic mats. Oxford fabric is a basket-woven textile known for its strength, abrasion resistance, and dimensional stability. Unlike cheaper non-woven alternatives, Oxford fabric maintains its appearance and structural integrity through hundreds of uses and wash cycles.

Waterproof Backing
The PE (polyethylene) backing is applied through a thermal lamination process that bonds the waterproof layer to the fabric without adhesives. This creates a durable, flexible barrier that will not delaminate or crack over time. The PE coating is also easy to wipe clean — a damp cloth is all that is needed to remove mud, spills, or stains from the bottom surface.
For premium product lines, we also offer TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) backing, which provides superior waterproofing, greater flexibility, and better environmental credentials than traditional PE coatings.
Custom Printing and Branding
Picnic mats offer an excellent canvas for brand expression and custom artwork. We offer multiple printing methods to achieve the look you want:
Printing Methods
- Sublimation Printing: Produces vibrant, full-color, edge-to-edge designs that penetrate the fabric fibers. Colors will not crack, peel, or fade. Best for polyester-based Oxford fabrics. Ideal for photo-quality images, gradients, and complex patterns.
- Screen Printing: A cost-effective method for simple logos, text, and spot-color designs. Suitable for larger order quantities where per-unit cost optimization is important. Available in up to 6 colors.
- Heat Transfer Printing: Great for smaller quantities and multi-color designs. Produces clean, detailed images with good color reproduction. Suitable for logos, text, and moderate-complexity graphics.
- Embroidered Logos: For a premium, tactile brand element. Embroidered patches or direct embroidery on a corner of the mat add a high-end touch to retail products.
Design Options
We can produce picnic mats with virtually any design: classic plaid patterns, bold geometric prints, nature-inspired motifs, brand logos, corporate event branding, team colors, holiday themes, and more. Our in-house design team can help create custom patterns from scratch, or you can provide your own artwork files. We accept AI, PSD, PDF, and high-resolution PNG formats.

Care and Maintenance
Proper care extends the life of a picnic mat and keeps it looking fresh for years. Here are our recommended care instructions:
- After Each Use: Shake off loose dirt, sand, and crumbs. Wipe the PE backing with a damp cloth if needed.
- Spot Cleaning: For food or drink spills, blot immediately with a clean cloth. Use mild soap and warm water for stubborn stains. Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach.
- Machine Washing: Most of our Oxford fabric picnic mats are machine washable on a gentle cycle with cold water. Use mild detergent only. Do not use fabric softener as it can affect the waterproof backing.
- Drying: Air dry by hanging or laying flat. Do not tumble dry, as high heat can damage the PE waterproof coating. Keep out of direct prolonged sunlight while drying to prevent color fading.
- Storage: Ensure the mat is completely dry before folding and storing. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing in compressed positions for extended periods.
- Ironing: If needed, iron on low heat on the fabric side only. Never iron the PE backing. Place a thin cloth between the iron and the printed surface to protect the design.
